莱斯特大学位于英国赖斯特郡首府莱斯特市，伦敦以北160公里（乘火车前往伦敦约1个半小时），人口约90万，学生占全城人口的十分之一。市中心有介绍古罗马的博物馆，整个城市被古罗马城墙所环绕。莱斯特大学的主校区坐落于莱斯特城的维多利亚公园旁，邻近维杰斯顿伊利莎白女皇一世书院（Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College），主校区距离市中心约一英里。2013年莱斯特大学向德蒙福特大学（De Montfort University）购买了位于莱斯特大学主校区附近的Brookfield校区，以利未来学校发展与扩充需要。
