4 or 5 years ago, a friend teaching English in S. Korea transited through the US with the passport that got the mark. Now she gets asked extra questions when transiting through the US or even going down to NY for a shopping trip. On the train, (Amtrak) she has been asked to get her stuff and leave the train and wait in the building with other people applying for visas. Sometimes they don't say anything to her but just give her (new) passport back, sometimes they just ask her the usual questions. Nothing major, but they are paying extra attention to her.
